Science and Tech Term 3, Weeks 8 & 9
In Science this fortnight, students have been busy engaging in experiments and strengthening their knowledge of solids, liquids and gases. The Grade F/1 and 5/6 students have been busy during buddy time making their musical instruments. Across the school, students have worked well together to experiment with different materials, while also describing them and their physical properties.
🥛🌈 Try It at Home: Magic Milk!
Want to try our colourful science experiment at home? You only need a few things from the kitchen!
You will need:
Milk
Liquid food colouring
Dishwashing liquid
A shallow plate or bowl
Cotton buds
What to do:
Pour enough milk onto the plate to cover the bottom.
Add a few drops of different food colours to the middle of the milk.
Dip a cotton bud into some dishwashing liquid.
Touch the soapy cotton bud gently onto the food colouring.
Watch what happens! 🌈
Try experimenting! What happens if you touch the cotton bud in different places? What happens if you add another drop of dishwashing liquid?
⭐ The science: Dishwashing liquid interacts with the fat in the milk, causing movement in the liquid and sending the colours swirling across the surface.
