Students across different year levels have been developing their understanding of Geography and History, exploring Australia’s diverse environments, cultures, and civics and Civics and Citizenship.

F/1 (with Mrs Martin):
Over the past two weeks, Foundation and Year 1 students have been learning about places in our community and why people visit them. They explored real and imagined places, including their natural and built features. Students worked hard on their booklet activities and enjoyed sharing their ideas with their partners and the class.

Years 1/2:
Students have been exploring the idea that every family is different and every family belongs. They discussed different ways families are made up, what makes their own families special and how we can show respect for all different kinds of families.

Years 3/4:
Students continued their journey around Australia by exploring Western Australia. They located Western Australia and important places on maps, explored the importance of Perth and the Swan River to the Whadjuk Noongar People, and investigated significant places including Ningaloo Reef and the Pinnacles.

Years 5/6:
Students have been learning about First Nations peoples’ connection to Country and how they advocate for the protection of important places. They explored the meaning of self-determination, examples of First Nations peoples protecting sacred places, and why Aboriginal place names were changed. Students also considered the importance of restoring Aboriginal place names and what this tells us about Aboriginal histories and cultures.

It has been fantastic to see students sharing their ideas, asking questions and developing their understanding.
