Humanities weeks 6 & 7

Humanities students across different year levels have been developing their understanding of geography and history.

·         Years 1/2: Students have been learning about how places change over time and why it is important to care for the environments around us. Students explored how places can change due to natural events, such as weather and plant growth, as well as human actions, including building, cleaning, and caring for the environment. Students considered the impact these changes can have on people, animals, and the land, while also sharing practical ideas for looking after local places.

·         Years 3/4: Students have begun an exciting journey around Australia, using maps to explore the country’s states, territories, and First Nations Countries and Places. They learned about the purpose of a travel itinerary and practised interpreting maps using directional language. As the first destination in their studies, students explored Tasmania, learning about its significance as the home of the Palawa Peoples and identifying key geographical features and places.

·         Years 5/6: Students have been investigating the lasting impacts of colonisation on Australia and examining how historical events continue to shape contemporary society. Students explored different perspectives on colonial history and considered how the experiences and decisions of the past influence Australia today.
