5/6 Class Term 3, Weeks 6 & 7
This fortnight in Grade 5/6, we have been busy reading lots of books.
We have been learning about Kirli Saunders, the author of our new text study novel ‘Bindi’. She is a Gunai woman, writer, artist and singer-songwriter. Bindi is a verse novel, written in free verse form.
We have been experimenting with writing our own verse poetry, based on our lives. An example is:
blazing hot ball in the sky
sun burns on the skin
loud sounds in the air
also the teeth grinding screams…
from the rides
big signs for the tourists
wandering freely
weary eyes
staring into space
the thrills the scares
but in the end
the crunchy and salty churros
make up for it
Disneyland

In Maths, we have been conducting statistical investigations and creating data displays. We learned to gather samples from a larger population, and how to ask qualitative questions, rather than just quantitative. An example from Cuda is: ‘Do you want more play time, and if so, how many more minutes of play time would you like?’
We have also enjoyed some special buddy time in the F/1 classroom. Enjoy some pictures of our Grade 5/6s reading to our little buddies.
