1/2 News Term 4, Weeks 2 and 3

Students in Year 1/2 have been exploring a range of skills across English, Mathematics, Humanities, Digital Technologies, PE and our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour program. Students have also begun their end-of-year assessments.

In Literacy, students have been studying Chalk Boy, exploring how illustrations help tell the story and add meaning to the text.

In Mathematics, students have been learning about multiplication and doubling, using arrays (rows and columns) and repeated addition to solve multiplication problems.

In Humanities, students have been exploring how family roles and responsibilities have changed or stayed the same over time. They have compared everyday tasks across generations and reflected on their own family histories.

In Digital Technologies, students have continued using ScratchJr to create coordinated routines for two characters. They have practised using repeat and speed blocks, testing and adjusting their projects to make their characters move in the correct order and at the right time.

In PE (Swimming), students have continued developing their water safety knowledge, learning to identify dangers and understand safety signs, flags and safe behaviours at pools, rivers and beaches.

Students should be proud of the resilience and persistence they have shown during their assessments, with some achieving high scores and others making significant improvements.

As part of our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour program, our focus has been on being honourable, with the expectations “We follow the rules of games” and “We are honest, even when it is hard.” Students created anchor charts and participated in role-playing activities to explore what these expectations look, sound and feel like.
