F/1 News Term 4, Weeks 2 and 3
F/1 students have continued to experience lots of success during our swimming lessons over the past three weeks. We have seen wonderful resilience as students have stepped outside their comfort zones, challenged themselves and, most importantly, had lots of fun!
In Phonics, we have been reviewing two-letter sounds (digraphs) and applying these to our writing. We have become sound detectives, searching for these spelling patterns in the books we read. Handwriting remains a strong focus, with students continuing to practise using dotted thirds during our daily writing tasks. We have enjoyed a fun writing activity about a Super Gran, imagining all the amazing superpowers Granny might have, such as throwing ice, becoming invisible or being super strong! This was a great opportunity for students to put their growing spelling knowledge into practice while letting their imaginations run wild.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on measurement. Students have created their own footprints and used them as informal units of measurement to measure different objects. We have also continued to build our number fact fluency through Facts on Fire, with students working hard to beat their personal bests and improve their speed and accuracy when answering number facts.
Classroom routines and expectations continue to be an important part of our learning as they assist in helping us to become successful learners. We are working hard to apply these expectations across all areas of the school, including specialist classes and when learning with visiting teachers. Showing respect, being ready to learn and staying focused are key goals in our classroom as we continue to build independence and positive learning habits.
