1/2 Class Term 3, Week 6 & 7
Students in Year 1/2 have been exploring a range of skills across English and Mathematics.
In Literacy, students have continued their novel study of Fantastic Mr Fox. They have explored how narratives have themes or messages that authors want readers to understand, including hope and persistence, and investigated how the author builds suspense to keep readers engaged. Students have also been analysing characters and their actions to make inferences about the qualities they may have, using evidence from the text to support their thinking.
In Mathematics, students have been learning about 3D objects and pathways. They have practised sorting 3D objects based on their features and comparing their properties. Students have also explored the 2D faces of 3D objects, developing their understanding of how flat shapes make up three-dimensional objects. In addition, students have been using directional language to follow directions and describe pathways.
As part of our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour program, students have been learning about our Behaviour Matrix and how it connects to our ARCH values. This fortnight, our focus has been “We use kind words and caring actions.” Students worked together to create anchor charts and participated in role-playing activities to explore what kind and caring behaviour looks and sounds like.
Students identified kind words and phrases such as “Please,” “Thank you,” “Are you okay?” “Can I help you?” and “Good job!” They also explored caring actions such as helping someone who is struggling or hurt, sharing equipment, giving others personal space, including others in games, listening when someone is speaking and looking after classroom equipment.
It has been fantastic to see students thoughtfully contributing their own ideas and practising these behaviours through role play. We are very proud of the way students are developing their understanding of how kind words and caring actions help create a safe, respectful and positive environment where everyone feels included and supported
