1/2 Class News weeks 6 & 7
Students in Year 1/2 have continued developing a range of skills across English and Mathematics.
In Literacy, students have been exploring characterisation through our Bob Graham author study, focusing on the picture storybook Max. They have learned to name and describe character traits, including appearance, actions, and behaviours. They have named emotions and challenges faced by characters. Students have also been using evidence from the text to explain and justify their opinions about characters and their experiences.
In Mathematics, students have continued developing a range of addition and subtraction strategies within 20. These include doubles, doubles plus 1 or 2, using addition to solving subtraction problems, fact families, bridging to 10, and finding the difference. Students have added and subtracted amounts to find the total cost of items, whether they can afford purchases, and how much change they would receive. Students have continued to build their fluency through our daily “Facts on Fire” sessions. It has been wonderful to see students showing increased confidence, accuracy, and motivation as they strengthen their recall of basic facts.
