Students in Year 1/2 have continued developing a range of skills across English and Mathematics.
In Literacy, students explored visual literacy and plot development during their Bob Graham author study. They examined how illustrations enhance stories, help sequence events, and support readers to infer meaning from pictures. Students also completed a whole-school writing assessment on “The Box”, creating imaginative stories featuring monsters, ships, and boxes inside boxes. They continued learning about compound sentences by identifying and writing sentences using conjunctions such as because, but, so, and, and or.
In Mathematics, students developed addition and subtraction strategies for facts to 20, including counting on, counting back, doubles, and split strategies. They also began daily fluency practice through “Facts on Fire”, including “Beat the Teacher” and one-minute timed challenges.
