Kitchen Garden weeks 8 & 9
The F/1 students worked their soil and planted out their bean seeds. The 1/2 class weeded their garden bed whilst the 3/4 picked some of our summer vegetables. We were excited to finally have grown a straight carrot, after our weird shaped ones last year. The 5/6 class took data from all the garden beds, including dampness, soil pH and soil temperature. We are now monitoring the rainfall by checking our rain gauge after rain events.
This week we have been learning about festive foods of different religions. We made Kue Putri Salju, a crescent-shaped biscuit dusted with icing sugar which is eaten by Indonesian Muslims to celebrate Eid, the festival at the end of Ramadhan. We also talked about symbols associated with Eater and the students made either a egg shaped biscuit, a carrot shaped biscuit 0r a rabbit shaped biscuit.
The 5/6 and F/1 classes decorated their biscuits with a combination of icing and M&M's.
