Grade 3/4 Explore Concept of Technology

Grade 3/4 students recently explored the notion of what constitutes ‘Technology.’ As a part of our Integrated Studies unit this term, students selected items from nature and used natural tools to help ‘change’ or ‘prepare’ their selection of items. As a class, we then discussed whether or not what we used would be considered ‘Technology.’ Students were thrown into the Learning Pit as they challenged their pre-conceived ideas, questioned and delved deeper into their thinking. It was such a rich and exciting discussion in which students developed their ideas of what technology might and might not be.
