5/6 News Term 4, Weeks 2 and 3
This fortnight in Grade 5/6, we have been focusing on narrative writing and ‘bumping up’ our work using sensory detail to build tension. Simple words like ‘said’ can be swapped for more vivid descriptions, such as: whispered, murmured, mumbled, shrieked…
- “I WANT TO BE QUEEN, NOW!” shrieked Veronica. “I will just ask mother when I will become queen”, she mumbled.
- “…WAKE UP!” My little brother’s voice boomed in my ears. “Alright, alright, I’m up…” I tiredly say.
In maths, we have been looking at the curriculum area of ‘space’ through translations of shapes and grid navigation. This week we are expanding our knowledge of grids and maps, by looking at contour lines. A contour line is an imaginary line on a map that connects points of equal elevation above a baseline, such as mean sea level. They are tools in topography and cartography to represent the three-dimensional shape of the land on a flat surface.
In other news, the grade 5 students completed their auditions for the 2027 Shakespeare play, King Lear. They all did an amazing job! We can’t wait to see this production unfold next year.
