5/6 Class News Term 3 - Weeks 2 & 3

Over the last two weeks, students in Grade 5/6 have been researching countries from the Commonwealth Games and writing information reports. We are enjoying researching and writing about a variety of different countries and finding out many fun facts along the way. Some fun facts include:

·         Scotland’s national animal is a unicorn. (Harley M)

·         In the British Virgin Islands, their premier is Doctor the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley. (Hadley)

·         England is one of six countries that have been in every Commonwealth Games since 1930. (Tom)

·         New Zealand sent 114 athletes to the Commonwealth games this year. (Harley L)

·         Canada’s calling code is just ‘1’. (Cuda)

·         The latest medal for Nigeria was a gold medal, won by Goodness Nwachukwa. (Cooper)

·         Fiji first entered the Commonwealth Games in 1938. (Edward).

·         The currency of the Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar. (Oliver)

·         New Zealand has more sheep than people. (Casey)

·         In 2010, India won a total of 101 medals. In 2026, their total is currently sitting at 17 medals. (Timmy)

·         The national anthem of the Bahamas is ‘March on Bahamaland’, and their national animal is the flamingo. (Abby)
