1/2 News weeks 8 & 9

Students in Year 1/2 have been learning about two- and three-digit numbers. They have been making, comparing and ordering numbers, as well as partitioning them in standard and nonstandard form of hundreds, tens and ones (for example 134 can be 1 hundred, 3 tens, 4 ones or it can be 13 tens and 4 ones). Students have also been developing their understanding of number lines, including finding the midpoint by halving and using their understandings of greater than and less than. In this activity, students used halving to plot unknown numbers on a number line, applying their mathematical reasoning (e.g. using their knowledge that half of 6 is 3 to determine that half of 600 is 300).
