Humanities Week 1
In Humanities, students across different year levels have been engaging with topics that build their understanding of geography and history.
· Years 1/2 students have been learning about their local community, including managed, constructed, and natural places. They have explored places they care about and how they look after them, while also developing their use of simple directional language. Students have also been introduced to how First Nations peoples care for Country.
· Years 3/4 students have been investigating how communities have changed over time. This includes exploring advances in technology, urbanisation, population growth, and key catalysts for change. They have examined the contributions of individuals and groups, such as Dylan Alcott and the RSPCA, in shaping communities.
· Years 5/6 students have been studying Australia in the 1800s, including colonisation, perspectives of First Nations peoples, and the experiences of free settlers, convicts and emancipated convicts.
Sustainability Leaders at SPS
The student leadership team kicked off the term with a visit from Sharon Ray of Wellington Shire, focusing on sustainability. Students explored key concepts such as linear and circular economies, the new three-bin system, and how these ideas can be applied both at school and at home. They are now preparing to lead a whole-school waste audit during her next visit.
It was clear how much knowledge students gained during last term’s Curious Communities sessions, reflected in the high quality of their contributions and discussions. Congratulations to our leaders—you represented SPS exceptionally well. We look forward to seeing your continued leadership and enthusiasm as you work to enhance sustainability at Stratford Primary School.
