Humanities
Humanities students across different year levels have been developing their understanding of geography, history, and the relationship between people and place.
· F/1 (with Mrs. Martin) students have continued their learning focus about families. They have been working hard to complete their “All About Me” posters, which are almost ready to share and display! Please keep an eye out for the back wall in the classroom, as these wonderful creations will be up soon. The students also enjoyed challenging Mrs Smyth and Mrs Edney to “Guess Who the Baby Is?” with our baby photo.
· Years 1/2 students explored how weather and seasons create natural changes in the environment and how these changes affect both natural and human-made places. They learned about seasonal patterns and different types of weather, and considered how these influence everyday life through hands-on activities, discussions, and observations. Students also developed an understanding of how First Nations peoples observe, respond to, and care for Country using traditional knowledge to recognise environmental changes and care for places sustainably for future generations.
· Years 3/4 students explored the importance of responsibilities within communities and how people contribute to creating positive change. They reflected on why responsibilities exist, what can happen when they are not fulfilled, and how communities change over time. Students also used their understanding of communities, roles, and change to make predictions and suggestions about how communities may continue to evolve in the future.
· Years 5/6 students explored how the environment influenced where people settled in the 1800s and how those settlements changed the land over time. They learned about how First Nations peoples cared for and managed Country prior to colonisation and compared different relationships people have with the environment, past and present. Students also developed an understanding of how colonial events and decisions continue to shape contemporary Australia today.
