1/2 Class News Term 3 Week1

Students in Year 1/2 have been exploring a range of skills across English and Mathematics. In Literacy, they have been identifying and comparing the settings in Queenie the Bantam by Bob Graham, discussing what is similar and what is different between the settings using evidence from the text.

In Mathematics, students have been practising the jump strategy to add and subtract one- and two-digit numbers. They have been applying their understanding of bridging to 10 and using place value knowledge to add the tens first, followed by the ones, building confidence and efficiency with these strategies.

As part of our schoolwide positive behaviour program, students have also been learning about the school's Behaviour Matrix and how it connects to our ARCH values. This week, the focus has been on the expectations of "We give others space" and "We give others time to learn." Students worked together to create anchor charts showing what these expectations look and sound like in the classroom. They also participated in role-play activities, acting out examples and non-examples to develop a shared understanding of how these behaviours help everyone feel safe, respected and ready to learn.
